Linda Hogan Calls Off Relationship With Much Younger Boyfriend Charley Hill

The shine has worn off for Linda Hogan, 52, and her 23-year-old beau, Charley Hill.
The former Mrs. Hulk Hogan announced she and Charley had ended their headline-making relationship on Tuesday, in a post on her Facebook page.
"Ok... My status has changed. I am now single," Linda, who had recently taken part in VH1's "Couples Therapy" with Charley, wrote. "After the great therapy we had together and time to think and concentrate on who we are and who we want to be, Charley and I decided that we should each travel through life in different directions."
Adding, "But, thank you all for always being so supportive of our relationship and choices. I hope that you all understand and are not be too terribly disappointed. Love you!"
The change of heart seemed to come out of the blue, as just two weeks ago, Linda stopped by Access Hollywood Live and happily divulged details of the now-former couple's sex life, saying their relationship got hot and heavy quickly.
"Did the action begin right away?" Billy Bush asked.
"Hell yeah, absolutely!" a proud Linda said at the time. "He was an old soul, he came at a place when I really needed somebody to listen and to be with me. He was my soul mate from the beginning."
Linda and Charley were 49 and 19 (respectively) when their nearly four-year relationship began, and Linda told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover they weren't necessarily considering marriage just yet.
"We're not really ready to take the plunge yet for marriage... it's something we have talked about, there's a lot things to discuss," she explained. "I think I came away from my 24-year marriage with a few trust issues."

Celebrity hair stylist Vidal Sassoon dead at 84

Vidal Sassoon, hair stylist and fashion world pioneer who created a natural look in the 1960s and built a multimillion-dollar business on his name, died on Wednesday after a long battle with leukemia. He was 84.
Sassoon died at his home in Los Angeles surrounded by loved ones and his wife of 20 years, Ronnie, his family said in a statement. "He will be greatly missed," they said.
The British stylist's scissors spelled the end of the 1950s-era beehive and the bouffant - untouchable hairstyles that owed their existence to lacquer and hair pins - and brought him international fame and fortune.
Sassoon was dubbed a pioneer for coming up with so-called wash and wear looks - liberating many women from weekly salon trips to have their hair done.
But as much as he was a genius in the salon, Sassoon was a whiz in business. He began marketing his name, styles and cutting techniques in a worldwide line of beauty salons, hair-cutting schools and later, related lines of hair products.
Still, Sassoon never felt the profession that he put at the forefront of modern fashion received the respect it was owed.
"Hairdressing in general hasn't been given the kudos it deserves," Sassoon told Reuters in 2010. "It's not recognized by enough people as a worthy craft."
"If you get hold of a head of hair on somebody you've never seen before, cut beautiful shapes, cut beautiful architectural angles and she walks out looking so different - I think that's masterful," he said.
Born in London on January 17, 1928, the son of a poor Turkish-Jewish carpet salesman, Sassoon spent eight of his early years in an orphanage after his father abandoned his family. He quit school at 14, and his stepfather agreed to finance his apprenticeship as a hairdresser.
"It was my mother's idea," he once said of his entry into hairstyling. "Her feeling was that I didn't have the intelligence to pick a trade myself."
In 1948, after the partition of Palestine, Sassoon spent a year working on a kibbutz and fighting in the Israeli army. He credited that year with giving him the direction and discipline needed to jump into a full-time career in hair cutting.
BOND STREET AND BOB CUTS
In 1950 he won his first hairdressing competition, and four years later at age 26, opened his first shop in fashionable Bond Street in London's West End.
He had decided that if he could not change hairdressing within a decade he would become an architect, and he drew inspiration from great buildings around the world. But soon, his salon was bursting with women looking for his signature styles that were geometric yet surprisingly natural and easy to shape.
His wispy-short early style was a vast contrast to the teased, brutally coiffed styles of the 1950s, and by 1963, he had created a short, angular cut on a horizontal plane that was the recreation of the classic "bob cut."
At the time, Sassoon was creating his "wash and wear hair" when styling models for fashion designer Mary Quant. Women began fashioning themselves after Quant's "Carnaby Street" style - not only with their hair, but also with white lipstick, severe eye makeup and thigh-high skirts.
His association with Quant put Sassoon at the forefront of pop culture and fashion. His styles also began attracting a male audience when The Beatles adopted Sassoon-inspired cuts with bangs and long locks down to their shoulders.
He gained even greater fame with his hair style for Mia Farrow in 1967 film, "Rosemary's Baby," and the term "a Sassoon" became part of the fashion lexicon in Europe and America.
"I just consider being one of the luckiest people in the sense that creativity came to me and it flowed," Sassoon told Reuters in the 2010 interview.
AUTHOR AND BUSINESSMAN
He diversified his hair-styling interests by writing. In 1967 - at age 39 - he published an autobiography, "Sorry I Kept You Waiting Madam," and in 1976, with his second wife Beverly, he wrote "A Year of Health and Beauty."
The book was a best-seller, but the marriage soon ended in a much-publicized divorce. His first marriage, to his receptionist Elaine Wood in 1956, had also ended in divorce in 1963.
Sassoon married four times in total and had four children. His eldest daughter, Catya, died of an accidental overdose in 2002 at age 33.
After building a business with salons and styling products, Sassoon sold the rights to his name to Richardson-Vicks, a U.S. health and beauty supply company, in 1983. At that time his hair products alone were netting Vidal Sassoon Inc about $113 million dollars a year.
Procter & Gamble acquired Richardson-Vicks in 1985, and continued making products using the Sassoon name.
The famed stylist sued Procter & Gamble in 2003, accusing the company of breach of contract and fraud on the grounds that it had neglected his brand. The two sides reached a confidential settlement in 2004.
The stylist maintained his British roots despite living in the United States. He was a die-hard fan of the Chelsea soccer team, and in 2009 he was honored by Queen Elizabeth when he was named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
Apart from hairdressing interests, he set up the Vidal Sassoon Foundation to help the needy in educational pursuits both in Israel and abroad.
His family said a memorial service would be planned for a later date. Sassoon is survived by his wife, three children and grandchildren.

Who gets to keep shipwreck treasure? Supreme Court declines Spain case

The US Supreme Court on Monday declined to take up the appeal of American treasure hunters who were forced earlier this year to surrender $500 million in silver and gold coins they recovered from the wreck of a Spanish warship 3,000 feet deep in international waters.
The high court took the action without comment.
A federal judge in Tampa, Fla., and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta ordered Odyssey Marine Exploration Inc. of Tampa to surrender the coins and other artifacts to Spain.
QUIZ: How much do you know about the US Constitution?
The courts ruled that the recovered cargo had come from the Spanish frigate Mercedes, which exploded and sank in 1804 while returning from South America. The ship’s remains and its cargo were the sovereign property of Spain, the courts said.
Urging the high court to take up the case, lawyers for Odyssey Marine argued that Spanish sovereignty did not apply to the coins and other artifacts because Spain was not in possession of the cargo.
The lawyers also argued that 75 percent of the recovered cargo had been privately owned and was merely being transported by the warship at the time it sank.
The case made headlines in February when the 17-ton treasure was loaded onto two Spanish Air Force cargo planes at a military base near Tampa and flown to Spain.
Madrid’s ambassador to the United States said the operation was completing a military delivery two centuries overdue. The coins and artifacts are being cataloged and will be displayed in museums, according to the Spanish government.
Since the salvage operation began in 2007, Odyssey Marine spent an estimated $2.6 million recovering the cargo. Spain has offered the company no compensation.
Melinda MacConnel, a lawyer with Odyssey Marine, said in her Supreme Court brief that the lower-court decisions could endanger the future of marine archaeology.
“This Court should address this nationally compelling issue because, with the advent of new underwater technology, more archaeological recoveries of shipwrecks and cargo are occurring around the world. With the Eleventh Circuit’s decision supporting them, foreign sovereigns without possession for hundreds of years will now conflictingly demand federal courts convey a salvage operator’s find to them,” Ms. MacConnel wrote.
“By the very nature and definition of a lost or sunken treasure, no party possesses it until recovery,” the lawyer wrote. But the appeals-court decision allows a foreign government to trump possession by claiming sovereignty over the sunken vessel and its cargo, she said.
There is no indication that Congress sought this outcome, MacConnel wrote.
Lawyers for Spain countered that the American treasure hunters desecrated a sacred burial site without the knowledge or permission of Madrid. Any artifacts recovered from the ship, they added, are an important part of Spanish history.
“Citing the ‘sad loss of the Frigate Mercedes,’ King Carlos IV declared war on Great Britain,” Spain’s brief to the high court said. “Spain entered the Napoleonic Wars as an ally of France, launching a decade of conflict that included destruction of the Spanish Navy at the Battle of Trafalgar, French invasion of Spain and installation of Napoleon’s brother Joseph as King of Spain, war within Spain, and interdiction of Spain’s links to its overseas viceroyalties.”
The brief continues: “As one of Odyssey’s experts put it, ‘the loss of the Mercedes on October 5, 1804 was a pivotal event in the history of Spain and of the Spanish Empire more broadly.’ ”
Claims were also filed on behalf of Peru and 25 individuals who said they were descendants of those who died aboard or owned cargo on the ship.
The claims were rejected.
The Odyssey Marine project began in 2006, when the company decided to focus on an area heavily trafficked by European merchant ships in the 19th century. They discovered the cargo roughly 100 miles west of the Strait of Gibraltar, or about a day’s voyage from the port at Cadiz.
The company recovered 594,000 coins and filed a claim for the treasure in federal court in Tampa in April 2007. Odyssey said it had been unable to verify the identity of the ship. Lawyers for Spain argued successfully that it was the Mercedes.
The US government filed a friend-of-the-court brief in support of Spain’s claim. It cited a 1902 treaty in which sunken Spanish warships would be afforded the same sovereign protections that sunken US warships would receive in US courts.
The Mercedes sank on Oct. 5, 1804, during an encounter with the British Navy. The Mercedes was part of a four-ship group returning from Peru.
The British ordered the Spanish ships to go to England. After refusing, the warships engaged in what became known as the Battle of Cape St. Mary. The 34-gun Mercedes suffered a catastrophic explosion. The ship carried 337 individuals, and all but 50 died.
After the sinking, the three other Spanish ships surrendered and were escorted to England.

"Stand Your Ground" defense fails in Florida shooting case

Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law is coming under more scrutiny, this time in a case involving a woman sentenced to 20 years in prison after firing a gun in the direction of her abusive husband.
Marissa Alexander was sentenced last week after a Florida judge rejected her defense citing the "Stand Your Ground" law, which allows people to use deadly force in a case where a person is attacked or believes his life or safety is in danger.
The controversial law, first enacted in Florida and now in effect in more than 20 other states, has come under growing criticism after the shooting death of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin in February.
Alexander, a 31-year-old mother of three, claimed in court that she fired a warning shot into the ceiling of a house after her husband threatened her and moved in her direction. The husband was not hit.
In issuing the ruling, the judge said Alexander could have escaped the situation instead of firing her gun.
Florida's minimum-sentence guidelines require Alexander to serve 20 years in prison because a gun was fired in the incident.
A member of the U.S. House of Representatives, the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and an advocacy group opposed to minimum prison sentencing guidelines have all rallied behind Alexander, calling her sentence harsh.
Greg Newburn, Florida project director for Families Against Mandatory Minimums, said under the sentencing guidelines Alexander would not be granted early release or opportunities for parole.
"I operate under the assumption, for argument's sake, that even if everything the state attorney alleges is true, the 20-year sentence is still obscene," Newburn said.
"I don't argue that the sentence is unjust because she is innocent, I argue that the sentence is unjust because it does not fit the circumstances."
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Representative Corrine Brown of Florida, who attended the sentencing, issued a statement criticizing the prison term.
"If women who are victims of domestic violence try to protect themselves, the 'Stand Your Ground' law will not apply to them," she said.
"Just minutes before the incident, Marissa's husband told her 'If I can't have you, nobody is going to have you.' Millions of abused women have heard those words."
Alexander alleged that during the August 1, 2010, incident her husband choked her and refused to let her leave the house. She said she eventually escaped to the garage, then realized she left her car keys behind and returned, carrying a handgun.
The office of Florida State Attorney Angela Corey said evidence at the scene suggested the shot was fired in a more threatening direction and put at risk two children who were also in the home at the time.
Corey said she offered Alexander a plea deal for a three-year sentence, but she refused. "She turned it down through a trial where she took the stand and, based on our assertion of the facts and based on our presentation of the evidence, she was found guilty," Corey said.
Relatives of Alexander say she plans to appeal and intends to take her case to Florida's clemency board, which has broad powers to reduce sentences or even pardon convicted criminals.
Alexander had no prior criminal record and possessed a court-issued protective order against her husband at the time of the attack.
Alexander's husband, Rico Gray, was arrested in 2006 and 2009 on charges of domestic battery.
Martin was shot to death by a neighborhood watch volunteer, George Zimmerman, in an Orlando suburb and authorities initially declined to arrest the shooter because of Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law.
The decision prompted nationwide protests and Zimmerman, who is white and Hispanic, was later charged with second-degree murder by Corey and arrested.

Channing Tatum may star in "White House Down"

Channing Tatum is in talks to star in Roland Emmerich's latest action flick, "White House Down," an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap. Sony acquired James Vanderbilt's spec script earlier this year for $3 million and then signed up director Emmerich, known for disaster films like "Independence Day" and "2012." This film is advertised as "Die Hard" in the White House, so explosive catastrophe can't be too far away. A Sony spokesman declined to comment on the casting. Tatum has been mixing up genres of late, starring in the Sony comedy "21 Jump Street" and its romantic drama "The Vow." Both "21 Jump Street" and "The Vow" did well at the box office, further boosting Tatum's status as a male lead. The former male stripper will hit the big screen twice this summer, in Steven Soderbergh's "Magic Mike" and "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," the sequel to the 2009 hit. Emmerich is producing "White House Down" with Vanderbilt, Bradley Fisher, Laeta Kaloridies and Bradley Fischer.

Adrian Peterson Injury: Vikings Star Leaves Game With Ankle Injury

Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson sprained his left ankle at the end the first quarter of Sunday's 27-21 loss to Oakland, and he didn't return.

X-rays showed no breaks, coach Leslie Frazier said afterward, and Peterson was still in his shoulder pads on the sideline during the second half. He will have an MRI to make sure there's no more damage. Peterson said he hoped to play next Sunday at Atlanta.

Peterson hobbled off the field after a tough 12-yard run through heavy traffic. His left ankle rolled hard as he was brought down by the Raiders, and he could barely put weight on it as he was helped to the sideline by team trainers. Peterson grimaced on the table while his ankle was looked at and rode on a cart to the locker room for further examination.

Peterson entered the week fifth in the NFL in rushing with 846 yards. He scored his 11th touchdown rushing before he got hurt and finished with 26 yards on six carries.

Second Quarter Too Much for Battered Vikings in Oakland 27-21 Victory

Second Quarter Too Much for Battered Vikings in Oakland 27-21 VictoryIt was a day of injuries, frustration, and one big quarter which was enough for the Raiders to send the Vikings to their 8th loss in 10 games in the 2011 season.

Carson Palmer threw for a touchdown and ran for another during a big second quarter, which the Raiders used to hold off the Vikings, 27-21, at the Metrodome.

Palmer passed for 164 yards and Michael Bush ran for 109 with a touchdown for the AFC West-leading Raiders (6-4), who have won their last two games. They also intercepted Minnesota quarterback Christian Ponder three times, including once in the end zone.

Ponder threw for 211 yards and two scores for the Vikings, who dropped their second consecutive game and lost running back Adrian Peterson to an ankle injury in the first quarter.

Oakland wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey left the game on a stretcher during the fourth quarter, after receiving a hit to his head.

The Raiders faced a 7-3 deficit after the first quarter, but Matt Giordano’s interception of Ponder early in the second jump-started a 21-point period.

The interception gave the Raiders the ball at their own 47, and they initially went backward because of a holding penalty and rushing loss. But Palmer sparked the drive with his 21-yard pass to Brandon Myers, and later found Denarius Moore for a 14-yard gain.

Then, on 3rd-and-8 from the Minnesota 11, Palmer connected with Chaz Schilens for a touchdown that was upheld after review.

The Vikings lined up for a field goal during the ensuing drive, but Chris Kluwe didn’t handle the snap correctly and was tackled for a 12-yard loss. That set the Raiders up at their own 43, and they again took advantage of the short field.

Palmer hit Marcel Reece with a 12-yard throw on 2nd-and-9 from the Minnesota 14, and Bush ran it into the end zone on the next play. The touchdown gave Oakland a 17-7 lead with just 1:20 left in the half, and a fumble by Lorenzo Booker on the kickoff gave the Raiders another scoring chance.

They started at the Vikings’ 16 and used an 11-yard pass by Palmer to move to the one. After calling timeout with 12 seconds to go, Palmer plunged up the middle and across the goal line.

Armed with the 24-7 halftime lead, Oakland’s defense held on during the second half.

It forced the Vikings to punt on their first two possessions of the third quarter, and Ponder was intercepted by Tommy Kelly on their third.

But after Oakland’s Sebastian Janikowski kicked a 26-yard field goal, Minnesota did get a second touchdown thanks to two big gains. Ponder hit Devin Aromashodu with a 42-yard pass on the final play of the third quarter, and Percy Harvin scored on a 26-yard catch-and-run during the opening play of the fourth.

Heyward-Bey was injured during Oakland’s following drive, when he caught the ball across the middle and was tackled. As he fell to the ground, the back of his head hit the leg of Vikings linebacker E.J. Henderson.

Heyward-Bey’s helmet popped off and he lay on the field, visibly in pain. Trainers examined him on the field for several minutes before a cart drove the receiver, strapped to the backboard, off the field.

That third-down play preceded Janikowski’s blocked field-goal try, which gave Minnesota the ball at its own 40 with more than 11 minutes to play. The Vikings marched into Oakland territory and were in position to score, with a 1st-and-goal at the 10.

But on third down from the five, Ponder tried to connect with Aromashodu in the right-front corner of the end zone, where Stanford Routt picked off the ball.

Bush’s fumble four plays into the ensuing Raiders drive gave Minnesota another chance, and this time the Vikings capitalized. Ponder’s 37-yard pass to Visanthe Shiancoe put the ball at the one, and he completed a touchdown pass to Kyle Rudolph on the next play.

That score brought the Vikings within 27-21 with 5:08 left on the clock, and they got the ball back with three minutes to go after forcing Oakland the punt. But they didn’t cross midfield, and the Raiders ran off all but two seconds to secure the victory.

Peterson’s 12-yard touchdown run with 5:17 left in the first quarter opened the scoring, but he injured his left ankle later in the frame during another 12-yard rush. He was helped off the field by trainers, rode a cart into the tunnel and did not return to the game.

Janikowski kicked a 29-yard field goal with 57 seconds left in the first to put Oakland on the board.

the longest domestic flight of my life...

Two weeks after accusations of sexual harassment against Herman Cain emerged, his wife, Gloria Cain, has opened up publicly about the matter, saying, “I’m thinking he would have to have a split personality to do the things that were said.”
In an interview conducted Sunday with “On the Record w/ Greta Van Susteren” on Fox News, Mrs. Cain said the descriptions from women accusing her husband of sexual harassment did not square with the man to whom she has long been married.
“You hear the graphic allegations and we know that would have been something that’s totally disrespectful of her as a woman,” she said. “And I know the type of person he is. He totally respects women.”
Fox News released excerpts of the interview Sunday night. The interview is to be broadcast Monday evening.
Mrs. Cain has been barely visible throughout her husband’s candidacy, appearing with him only a handful of times. “You won’t see my family out on the campaign trail on a day-to-day basis,” Mr. Cain told Fox News this month.
What’s known about Mrs. Cain, whose maiden name is Etchison and who has been married to Mr. Cain for more than 43 years, is limited almost completely to her husband’s remarks and a chapter about her in his book, “This Is Herman Cain! My Journey to the White House,” published earlier this year. Titled “Gloria,” it spans four pages.
In the book, he explains her role in his campaign: “Gloria continues to be a steady source of devotion and inspiration,” he writes.
“Some people have certain expectations concerning the traditional politician’s wife, though,” he writes, “and I’m often asked: ‘Where is your wife? Why isn’t she campaigning with you?’ ”
“ ‘She is at home,’ I answer.
“And Gloria will tell them that she’s not running, but she supports me 100 percent. That’s all I need.”
The Cain campaign has been struggling to regain its focus after it was revealed that two women who worked for the National Restaurant Association received monetary settlements in the 1990s relating to allegations of harassment by Mr. Cain when he was its chief.
One of the women, Karen Kraushaar, has spoken out publicly in recent days. Another woman, Sharon Bialek, recently claimed she was groped by Mr. Cain in 1997 after she asked for employment help after being fired from the association’s education foundation. Mr. Cain has denied the accusations.

detective? DETTTTECTIIIIIIVE!?!?

1. I went to see Kevin Spacey in Richard III last night. Act 1 was 2 hours long. I repeat, Act 1 was 2 hours long. The first hour was pretty exciting because we were in the 4th row and Kevin Spacey was ALMOST SWEATING ON US. But the thrill was gone into hour two. Also, there was no synopsis in the program. I'm a dumbass. With Shakespeare, I need a little dumbass version, so I can follow along. The only part I started to get was the two young princes, because that is a spooky Tower of London Murder Mystery, and I've been all over that for years. If you plan on going and are dumb like me, have an espresso and read a synopsis first.

Sidenote about Richard III with Kevin Spacey. In the 2-hour Act 1, there is a scene with a head in a box (I'm not giving anything away. At least I think I'm not. I really have no idea.) Anyway, Kevin Spacey (as a disabled person) is making a big speech over a head in a box and I just about exploded! I wanted to stand up in the theater and scream, "Is anyone appreciating this? Anyone?"

2. I am fascinated with this San Francisco Magazine slideshow of an Ann Taylor party in Menlo Park. What, I'm dying to know, is Menlo Park? I can't get enough of these photos, because it's so exciting to see what appears to be the suburban retail store celebrated so seriously! I would have driven (or flown? I'm not sure) to "Menlo Park" to drink water out of a wine glass in Robin Hood boots and statement jewelry. Is there an #OccupyMP movement and did they protest? Or celebrate, as Ann Taylor is affordable careerwear? I've got to know...

tourist trapped: buca di beppo...

Historically, when I meet Melissa's friends from college or back home, they are instantly my favorite people in the world. I just love them! Still, I generally try way too hard to impress them as evidenced by this photo:

As Melissa's friend Corinne pointed out, "It's the jazz hands that really sell it."
So true.
Anyway, for reasons I still don't understand, we had dinner at Buca di Beppo, thus resulting in today's Tourist Trapped. Corinne, far better at being unintentionally impressive than me, asked for extra caramel sauce for our bizarre dessert. "Diego" brought it to us in a coffee mug.

The guy sitting next to Melissa is her boyfriend, Christopher Caen. Yep, that Caen. I'm just waiting for another commenter to make some jab about how much Christopher's dad would HATE what I write so Christopher can swoop in and be all, "Wrong!"
I will make him say that, of course. He's dating my best friend, after all. I get to make him do stuff, right?

Thank God I have all the free time in the world to read, "The Ed Lee Story: An Unexpected Mayor" and pull the 5 weirdest quotes from the "book" for your (okay, my) amusement on SFGate. It's up on the Culture Blog now.
Also, while you may have READ the story or been one of the "lucky" few to have BEEN there in person, there's a very awesome video of LitCrawl up on YouTube. It's 20 minutes long, but there's an edited version of my story up at 12:36. Check it out! And while you're at it, check out LitQuake next year because it will make you both smarter and cooler...

So you better get on it.

And watching this episode of NC doesn't count as getting on it.

a real friend would have signed it, 'your secret admirer...'

One of my girlfriends recently said, "When I was in my 20's, I thought Sex and the City was totally unrealistic. In my 30's, I'm finding it pretty accurate."
I agree for lots of different reasons. One of them is that in my 20's, when I had a weekend like the weekend I'm having this weekend, my best friends had neither the money nor the inclination to have flowers delivered to me. Both of those things have changed.
Unrelated, I am watching lots of "It Gets Better" videos. They're not just for bullied LGBTQ teens anymore! Or maybe they are, but I'm sneaking in...like the time I went to a crystal meth anonymous meeting by mistake. These are totally making me feel better about myself. This one is my favorites.
Speaking of it gets better, I am now on my way to have dinner with a bunch of men with whom I attended high school. Two of them inspired this post. And none of them I spoke to from 1992-1996. So if nothing else, it only took fifteen years but I finally got invited to sit at the cool kids table. Only now the table is at the House of Prime Rib...

midnight in the garden of floral skirts and area rugs...

Today's Tourist Trapped will be up tomorrow. My apologies.
Are you doing anything fun tonight? I am speaking to Linda Yee's journalism class at City College. So the jokes is on you, students! I am neither a journalist, nor classy.
Anyway, I am constantly, pretend-ly considering of moving to Savannah, Georgia. If I was willing to give up my "career" and go have some anonymous job in Savannah, I would do it tomorrow.
I have this fantasy where I work at a bookstore/cafe/open-mic type establishment. Everyone I work with is kinda crazy and lovable. We all hang out together, and I date a guy that drives a truck and has a yellow lab named Triscut. I don't have tons of money, but I have enough to drive a cute car, go to Europe on museum tours and wear lots of 90's style clothes, like colorful tights and bucket hats with fake sunflowers on them. And my little wooden house, where I live by myself paying $300 a month like Julia Roberts in "Sleeping With The Enemy", is decorated with funky art my friends made and colorful pillows. All of my lightbulbs are 30 watts and I listen to this when I drive through the bayou to go visit my wrongly-convicted prison pen pal.
I will have a casual respect for voodoo and go to a very friendly, vaguely-Christian church on Sundays, mostly for the gossip and picnic-based occasions.
I will listen to Tuck and Patti, Shawn Colvin, Eva Cassidy and anything approved by the Lilith Faire. Much of this fantasy is based upon the film versions of women of John Grisham novels.
It's also based on Tuck and Patti, who I have loved for a decade. When I live in Savannah, I will be friends with couples like Tuck and Patti. Actually, I just figured out Tuck and Patti are married. Something that never occured to me when watching this video (repeatedly). Again, this is very much what my life in Savannah will be like:
You're surprised they're married too, aren't you. Isn't love amazing? Anyway, Tuck and Patti will be at Yoshi's on Fillmore on December 14th & 15th. None of my friends will go with me. I'm afraid to even ask. But I am going, and I will pretend it's my one night off from my gig assistant-managering "Quills & Croissants." If you attend, look for the chick with the colorful tights and the ex-con...

and yeah. willie brown was there...

This week's Tourist Trapped came about due to sad circumstances. I was at a funeral with a bunch of folks from high school. And for my friend Dan's last night in San Francisco, we decided to head to The House of Prime Rib for Sunday dinner.
My take-away from that dinner, other than the fact that people I never spoke to in high school turned out to be hilarious and fun dining companions 15 years later, is that the House of Prime Rib is fucking fabulous. The next time I feel like sitting at a bar and making friends?
HOPR. No question.
It's up now, on SFGate...

Velasquez vs dos Santos Press Conference

The UFC is hosting a press conference at 4 p.m. ET to promote their debut show on the Fox network. UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, challenger Junior dos Santos , and UFC President Dana White will appear at the press conference. Video will stream at UFC.com.

Cain Velasquez (9-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) will attempt to make his first defense of the heavyweight belt he won from Brock Lesnar last October at UFC 121. Velasquez injured his rotator cuff in the fight against Lesnar. The subsequent surgery and rehab kept him out of training for over six months.

Junior dos Santos (13-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) reaffirmed his place as the number one contender with a dominant decision victory over Shane Carwin at UFC 131. Dos Santos was originally scheduled to fight former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, but another round of diverticulitis forced Lesnar off the card.

The press conference takes place at W Hollywood Hotel in Hollywood, California, and it is open to the public.
